Hyderabad: Former Minister and Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Tuesday said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao holds a historic position in the movement for a separate Telangana state, indicating KCR played a key role in this pivotal moment.
Speaking at NIMS Hospital while distributing fruits to patients, Talasani recalled the 1969 Telangana agitation. He said that unlike earlier leaders who, in his words, “buckled under pressure,” KCR played a key role by mobilising people through sustained, non-violent protests.
KCR’s fast forced Centre’s hand in 2009, says Talasani
He credited KCR with uniting employees, students, and workers through major mass protests like Sagara Haram, Sakala Janula Samme, and Vanta-Varpu. Talasani also highlighted the 11-day fast-unto-death launched by KCR in 2009 with the slogan, “Either Telangana will come or KCR will die,” calling it a turning point that truly showed how KCR played a key role in forcing the Centre’s hand.
That hunger strike, he said, led the Central Government to announce the initiation of the statehood process on December 9, now observed as Vijay Diwas.
Talasani claimed Telangana witnessed rapid development during KCR’s ten-year tenure as Chief Minister following the formation of the state in 2014, proving how KCR played a key role during his leadership.
BRS MLAs Mutha Gopal and Kaleru Venkatesh, along with Secunderabad Parliament in-charge Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav, were also present at the event.
