Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao blamed the BJP for the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
KTR said the Bill failed because the BJP linked it with delimitation. According to him, this move created complications and stalled its passage.
He stated that all political parties, including the BRS, supported women’s reservations. However, he alleged that the BJP’s approach prevented the Bill from succeeding.
Women’s Reservation Bill linked to delimitation, says KTR
KTR said the government could have implemented reservations within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats. Instead, he accused the BJP of politicising the issue.
He alleged that linking the Bill with delimitation could disadvantage southern states. Moreover, he said this approach ignored concerns raised by several parties.
KTR described the development as a missed opportunity for women’s empowerment. He also accused the BJP of using the issue for electoral gains.
Further, he demanded that the Centre introduce a fresh Bill without linking it to delimitation. He urged the government to implement it for the upcoming elections.
KTR said delimitation remains a complex issue that requires wider consultations. Therefore, he asked the Centre to hold discussions before taking further steps.
He added that the developments in Parliament should serve as a lesson against unilateral decisions on sensitive national issues.
