KTR accuses Congress government of mafia rule over check dam blasts

Hyderabad: BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao on Tuesday launched a fresh attack on the Telangana government and alleged that mafia rule had replaced people’s governance in the state.

According to KTR, the government allowed blasts at check dams to help the sand mafia. He said leaders earlier targeted the Kaleshwaram project during elections. Now, however, they were using gelatin sticks to destroy check dams for sand mining.

KTR check dam blasts allegation linked to sand mafia

In a post on X, KTR referred to noted water conservationist Rajendra Singh, who described the damage as man-made. Moreover, KTR said the report offered clear proof. It showed drilling, placing gelatin sticks, and triggering blasts.

Further, he questioned how authorities could destroy check dams built with crores of public funds. He asked whether such actions reflected governance or criminal control.

KTR said the previous BRS government built check dams to improve groundwater levels. However, he alleged that the present government destroyed them. As a result, he warned that fertile farmland would turn into dry land.

He also asked whether Telangana farmers should suffer losses to protect the profits of sand contractors.

Meanwhile, referring to claims by Congress ministers, KTR said they blamed natural causes for the damage. However, he said the Rajendra Singh report exposed those statements. He directly questioned Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on the government’s response.

KTR further alleged that the government failed to create new assets. Instead, he said it acted swiftly when it came to destroying existing ones. Therefore, he demanded that officials expose those behind the alleged blasts.

Finally, KTR demanded the formation of a people’s enquiry commission, as suggested by Rajendra Singh. Otherwise, he warned, the fallout of these blasts would reach the ruling leadership itself.
