Hayathnagar residents protest, seek foot over bridges on Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway

Hyderabad: Residents of Hayathnagar held a sudden protest on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada national highway, seeking immediate construction of foot over bridges for pedestrian safety.

The protesters said officials carried out road widening works without proper planning. Because of this, several people died while crossing the busy highway. Residents expressed strong anger and said the lack of safety steps led to repeated deaths.

According to the residents, crossing the highway became very dangerous after the recent road expansion. Therefore, they urged the government to act at once. They demanded that authorities build several foot over bridges on a war footing within the Hayathnagar limits.

Meanwhile, local corporators joined the protest. Residents from colonies on both sides of the highway also took part in large numbers. As a result, the protest gained strength within a short time.

As the agitation continued, traffic on the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway came to a halt. Long lines of vehicles formed, causing trouble to daily commuters.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information. They asked the protesters to clear the road and later restored normal traffic on the highway.
