Kishan Reddy calls for people’s movement on nutrition and fitness

Hyderabad: Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy called for nutrition health awareness to become a people’s movement.

He said a healthy population was essential to achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047”. Therefore, he urged people to make healthier choices in their daily lives.

Reddy made the remarks at the valedictory programme of the five-day “POSHAN MAAH” celebrations at A.V. College grounds on Saturday. The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) organised the programme.

The Minister urged citizens to follow healthy diets, get adequate sleep and exercise regularly. In particular, he suggested walking, yoga and sports as practical forms of physical activity.

He also advised people to cut down on excessive oil, sugar and junk food. Instead, he encouraged fresh and nutritious home-cooked meals.

Reddy expressed concern over lifestyle-related health problems among children and young people. Therefore, he stressed the need to develop healthy habits at an early age.

He also called for a better balance between screen time and physical activity. In addition, he urged people to give greater attention to regular exercise.

Nutrition health awareness linked to healthy lifestyles

Reddy also addressed concerns over drug abuse. He said building a drug-free India required collective responsibility.

Accordingly, he said parents, teachers, educational institutions, police, voluntary organisations and society must contribute to the effort.

He described initiatives such as “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and “Fit India” as important to building a healthier and stronger nation. Moreover, he linked such efforts with broader public health goals.

Meanwhile, the Minister appreciated the activities conducted during POSHAN MAAH. The programme included quiz, poster-making, video-making and nutritious recipe competitions.

Reddy encouraged students, youth and women to become ambassadors of healthy living. As a result, he called for wider public participation in health-related awareness efforts.

PIB and CBC Additional Director General Shruti Patil said the five-day programme had increased awareness among students.

The activities focused on nutrition, balanced diets and healthy lifestyles. Furthermore, interactive programmes helped students engage with these subjects.

Families urged to turn awareness into action

Patil urged families to convert nutrition health awareness into daily practice. She said small changes in food and lifestyle choices could support a healthier and more productive India.

The programme also brought together senior officials and representatives of the A.V. Education Board. In addition, A.V. Education Board Member K. Vinod Reddy, the A.V. College Correspondent, teachers, students and other dignitaries attended the event.
