Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi President and BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha will stage a 72-hour hunger strike from August 4 to August 7. She will protest at Dharna Chowk in Indira Park, demanding fast enactment of 42 % BC reservations in local bodies, education, and employment.
Kavitha announced at the Somajiguda Press Club that the protest begins at 11 AM on August 4. It will run continuously until 11 AM on August 7. United Phule Front and BC organisations joined her at the news conference.
She pointed out that the government already introduced and passed BC reservation bills in the state Assembly and Council. However, she criticised the administration for failing to press the central government to forward the bill to the President of India.
Kavitha said no all-party delegation visited Delhi despite promises. She accused the Congress of staging token protests in Delhi to appeal to voter sentiment in Bihar, rather than genuinely pursuing quota implementation.
She questioned why Telangana hasn’t filed legal petitions if the President delays assent. Kavitha cited Tamil Nadu, which legally secured a higher quota, as an example to follow. She urged the state government to resubmit the bills if they are rejected, as constitutional law allows.
Kavitha accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of shielding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interests and ignoring the BC cause. She demanded immediate petitions in the High Court and the Supreme Court to force central action.
She also dismissed calls by BC minister Ponnam Prabhakar for voluntary MLA participation in durnahas, saying democratic practice requires formal invitations before protests.
Kavitha recalled her earlier 72-hour fast in unified Andhra Pradesh to demand an Ambedkar statue, which had led to government action. She pledged to use the same method now to push for the BC quota bill’s implementation.
