Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) rejected claims that Hyderabad water supply would stop or face restrictions by the end of November due to El Niño and a possible drought. The Board clarified that it had not issued the viral message warning of dry reservoirs and drinking water shortages.
The rumour spread across social media and worried city residents. The message claimed that low rainfall and rising temperatures would drain reservoirs by late November. It also linked the alleged shortage to falling groundwater levels and drying borewells in residential areas.
The claims surfaced amid concerns over rising daytime temperatures and declining groundwater levels. The viral message warned that these conditions could disrupt the city’s drinking water supply. However, the Water Board said the message circulating in its name was not genuine.
Hyderabad water supply: Board asks residents to verify claims
The HMWSSB urged residents to ignore unverified messages carrying the Board’s name. It also asked them not to forward such claims to others.
Residents should check the Board’s official announcements and communication channels for updates on Hyderabad water supply and water conservation. The HMWSSB said people should not rely on viral social media messages for information about drinking water services.
The Board also appealed to residents to use water responsibly and avoid wastage. It directed the public to follow official channels for guidance on water supply and conservation.
