Hyderabad police warn firms over misuse of services for drug transport

Hyderabad: In a push to make the city safer, Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday held a high-level coordination meeting with nodal officers of telecom, courier, food delivery, transport, and internet service companies at the old commissioner’s office in Basheerbagh.

He urged all service providers to immediately set up dedicated teams to respond to police inquiries without delay. The move is part of a broader Hyderabad police drug crackdown and public safety campaign.

Hyderabad police drug crackdown targets courier, app misuse

Sajjanar cautioned companies against putting profit above public interest. He said e-commerce and courier platforms were increasingly being misused to transport ganja, narcotics, and other banned substances. Firms must enforce robust surveillance systems and notify police immediately upon spotting any suspicious parcels, he said.

“Any company found aiding anti-social activities, even due to negligence, will face strict legal action,” the Commissioner warned.

Cab driver conduct, ride cancellations flagged by top cop

Raising concerns about passenger safety, Sajjanar said his office had received multiple complaints about cab and bike taxi drivers misbehaving with women. He directed transport aggregators to monitor their drivers more strictly.

He also addressed frequent complaints of drivers cancelling rides after learning drop-off locations or after receiving payment. Such actions, he said, are unacceptable and should invite disciplinary measures from the platforms.

Additional Commissioners M. Srinivas, Tafseer Iqbal, and Swetha, along with Cyber Crimes DCP Aravind Babu and other senior officers, attended the coordination meeting.
