Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former minister T. Harish Rao on Friday lashed out at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of breaking election promises and prioritising liquor sales to boost revenue. He said the Congress-led government had increased taxes while sidelining welfare schemes.
In a strong social media post, Harish Rao alleged that Revanth Reddy focused more on liquor income than on delivering the “six guarantees” promised during the polls.

He pointed out that the licence fee for liquor shops had jumped from ₹2 lakh to ₹3 lakh. According to him, this clearly shows the government’s push to expand liquor business. He also claimed that officials were under pressure to meet sales targets and were being penalised for falling short.
“Instead of shutting belt shops, liquor is now flooding every village,” he said. He further criticised the decision to allow microbreweries across Telangana, calling it a misplaced priority that puts public health at risk.
Welfare ignored, liquor prioritised: BRS leader
Harish Rao noted the Congress had failed to implement monthly ₹2,500 allowances for women and gold benefits under Kalyana Lakshmi. He said the 25% reservation in wine shops promised to the Gowda community had also been ignored. Even the previous 15% quota from the BRS era wasn’t being enforced, he alleged.
He warned that low-grade liquor brands were being approved freely, jeopardising public safety. Meanwhile, he said essential items like urea remained out of reach for farmers.
Calling Revanth a “U-turn leader,” Harish Rao reminded the public that the CM once promised to shut pubs and clubs. “Now, he is issuing more licences and collecting commissions,” he said. He urged the government to abandon what he called the “foolish idea” of microbreweries.
