GRP, RPF nab interstate zip theft gang at Secunderabad, seize gold worth Rs.25 lakh

Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), Secunderabad, arrested an interstate zip theft gang on Wednesday and recovered 210 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs.25 lakh.

Police identified the accused as Kokila Maniraju, 39, a resident of Bengaluru, and S. Dina, 27, from Vellore district in Tamil Nadu. Both were arrested on December 25 while moving suspiciously near Gate No.2 of Secunderabad Railway Station.

According to police, Kokila Maniraju was a habitual offender who had earlier been jailed in four property offence cases registered at various police stations in Hyderabad city. Dina, police said, was addicted to alcohol and cigarettes and had joined the woman in committing thefts due to financial distress.

Officials said the duo committed two thefts earlier this month while travelling in the AC coach of Nanded Express. Posing as passengers travelling from Visakhapatnam to Charlapally on December 2, the accused allegedly stole gold ornaments from the bags of two women passengers while they were asleep. After committing the theft, they got down at Charlapally station and escaped.

Interstate zip theft gang held after confession

On December 25 morning, police teams apprehended the accused near Secunderabad Railway Station. During interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in the theft cases registered under Crime Nos. 630 and 631 of 2025 under Section 305(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at RPS Secunderabad.

Police seized two gold ornaments weighing 210 grams, valued at approximately Rs.25 lakh, from the accused.

The arrests were carried out by Inspector B. Saieashwar Goud, SHO, RPS Secunderabad, along with SIRP S.V. Subba Reddy and the crime team, in coordination with RPF officers including IPF Bhavani Shankar Saraswat, SI Govind Naidu and CIB teams.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Chandana Deepti and S.N. Jawed. K. Ramesh Naidu appreciated the GRP and RPF teams and announced suitable rewards for their performance.
