Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed officials to provide Green Channel compensation without delay to sexual assault victims from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
Revanth Reddy issued the directive during a State-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at the Secretariat. The committee reviewed the implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The State-level High-Power Vigilance and Monitoring Committee met under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship. According to the information provided, it was the committee’s first such meeting since Telangana’s formation.
Officials reviewed cases registered under the Act and the progress of investigations and trials. They also examined case disposal and the assistance and rehabilitation provided to victims.
Green Channel compensation ordered without delay
Revanth Reddy said the government had responded on humanitarian grounds to sexual assault incidents involving SC and ST victims. Accordingly, he ordered officials to process Green Channel compensation promptly.
The Chief Minister also outlined welfare programmes implemented for the socio-economic development of SC and ST communities. These included the supply of fine rice and nutritious food to Dalit and tribal families.
He said the government had drawn inspiration from former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s ideals. He added that funds were being allocated in proportion to the populations of different communities.
According to Revanth Reddy, SC beneficiaries accounted for 31 per cent of beneficiaries under the Indiramma housing scheme. Meanwhile, ST beneficiaries received 17 per cent of the houses sanctioned under the scheme. The Chief Minister said the government had provided breakfast to 27.5 lakh students from nursery to Class XII across Telangana.
Recalling Indira Gandhi’s contribution, he said she had distributed assigned land titles covering 25 lakh acres to SC and ST communities. He said members of those communities regarded her as their beloved “Indiramma”.
Revanth Reddy stressed that education was essential for transforming people’s lives. He said problems affecting marginalised communities could not be addressed without access to quality education.
Therefore, he appealed to SC and ST families to encourage their children to pursue education and participate in sports. “Let us work towards the development of these communities, rising above politics,” Revanth Reddy said.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar attended the meeting. Government Advisor Shabbir Ali was also present.
MPs Mallu Ravi, Balaram Naik and Kadiyam Kavya participated in the meeting. MLAs Thota Laxmikantha Rao, Medipalli Satyam, Kavvampalli Satyanarayana, Vemula Veeresham, Mandula Samuel, Matta Ragamayi, Vedma Bojju and Murali Naik attended.
MLC Gorati Venkanna, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and DGP C.V. Anand were also present. Chairpersons and members of the SC/ST Commissions and senior officials attended the meeting.
