Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma praised young changemakers as vital contributors to India’s democratic future during the Youth Parliament 2025 grand finale held on Saturday at BJR Bhavan, Banjara Hills.
The civic education programme, aimed at school students, was organised by the Hyderabad District Administration under the School Education Department. District Education Officer Rohini led the initiative, with support from the Ikshana group and sponsorship by Rotary Lake District.
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar also attended the event as Guest of Honour.
Addressing students, educators, and parents, the Governor described the participants as future leaders and diplomats. He said Parliament and State Legislatures are key democratic institutions responsible for shaping laws, policies, and national direction.
Youth Parliament 2025 grand finale showcases student-led democratic vision
Governor Dev Varma underscored the importance of experiential learning as advocated by the National Education Policy. He commended the preparation of a student-driven White Paper, calling it an aspirational roadmap capturing the present generation’s hopes for the future.
He applauded the strong presence of girl students and called their involvement part of a “silent but transformative democratic revolution.” The Governor also presented district-level awards and certificates to students for their performance.
Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reflected on his own journey from student activism to public life. He said that engaged, educated youth were essential to strengthening democracy and improving political standards.
The Minister noted that platforms like Youth Parliament, mock assemblies, and Model UN sessions help students grasp how legislative institutions function. He urged for such initiatives to be expanded to every district in Telangana.
Anjali Gupta and Ankur Gupta represented the Ikshana group at the event, while Rotarians Sunil Saraf and Raj Shekhar participated on behalf of the Rotary Lake District, which sponsored the programme.
