Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R. V. Karnan called for a budget awareness push and urged students to understand Union and State budgets beyond textbooks.
At the State-level ‘Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament’ on Saturday, he explained key concepts such as fiscal deficit and expenditure patterns. He also highlighted the importance of distinguishing between capital and revenue expenditure.
According to Karnan, Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management norms regulate government borrowing. Therefore, he urged students to build financial awareness at an early stage.
He also encouraged youth to file income tax returns independently. In addition, he advised them to stay informed through newspapers and knowledge-based reading.
Budget awareness push highlights financial literacy and responsibility
Karnan said the budget awareness push would help youth make informed decisions. Moreover, he stressed that financial literacy remained essential for responsible citizenship.
At the same time, he cautioned against excessive digital usage. Mobile phones, he noted, could be beneficial or harmful depending on usage patterns. He further warned that online advertisements were driven by user behaviour.
“Do not become pawns to algorithm-driven content,” he said. Therefore, he urged students to stay alert while consuming digital information.
