Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation conducted an Indie Puppies adoption drive in Rajendranagar to promote pet adoption and animal welfare on Saturday.
The civic body organised the event in collaboration with the College of Veterinary Science at the Veterinary Clinical Complex. The initiative focused on encouraging adoption of Indie puppies.
The programme coincided with World Veterinary Day. Officials said the event highlighted the role of veterinarians in animal health, zoonotic disease control, and community welfare.
Indie Puppies adoption drive promotes responsible ownership
The Puppies adoption drive aimed to promote responsible pet ownership across the city. It also focused on rehabilitating street dogs through adoption.
Officials said the initiative supported rabies prevention measures. Moreover, it aligned with GHMC’s cure programme and the Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika framework.
They added that the programme reflected a people-centric and time-bound approach to urban development.
GHMC officials said such drives would continue to strengthen animal welfare systems. They noted that community participation remained crucial for successful implementation.
The event also encouraged citizens to adopt pets instead of purchasing them. Authorities said adoption would help reduce the number of stray animals in the city.
