Hyderabad: Director of Census Operations Telangana Bharati Hollikeri announced the digital census drive will begin in the state from April 26.
She said the self-enumeration phase of Census of India 2027 would continue till May 10. The announcement was made at a press meet held at the GHMC headquarters on Saturday.
Hollikeri said this exercise marked Telangana’s first census after state formation. She added that it would also be the country’s first fully digital census.
Digital census drive introduces self-enumeration
The digital census drive allows citizens to submit details through an official online portal. She said the process was voluntary and aimed to ease field workload.
The portal supports 16 languages, including Telugu, Hindi, and English. Moreover, citizens do not need to upload documents or photographs.
Officials said 27 out of 33 questions could be answered online. The remaining questions would be covered by enumerators during field visits.
Hollikeri described the census as the “mother of all surveys.” She said accurate data collection remained essential for policymaking and development planning.
The digital census drive will include caste-based enumeration for the first time since Independence. She urged citizens to provide correct information to reflect ground realities.
Officials also launched posters and publicity material during the event. They called on residents to participate actively in the exercise.
A helpline number 1855 will operate from 10 am to 6 pm to assist citizens.
GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan said authorities would deploy 21,866 enumerators and 3,652 supervisors across the city. He added that each division would function as a separate unit for implementation.
