Eight-day-old baby sale reported in LB Nagar

Hyderabad: An eight-day-old baby sale case surfaced in LB Nagar after a woman approached a family seeking adoption for Rs 1 lakh. According to Inspector Vinod Kumar, Mukhtar Baig of NTR Nagar was trying to arrange a child for his younger daughter, who was unable to have children.

Meanwhile, the woman, identified as Lalmon Katoon, 34, had come from Bihar. She had given birth to a baby eight days earlier, according to the source.

Katoon reportedly learned through some people that Baig’s younger daughter wanted to adopt a child. Subsequently, she travelled to NTR Nagar on the 7th of this month and approached Mukhtar Baig with the child.

The source said Katoon sought Rs 1 lakh for the child. However, Baig became suspicious and suspected that the child might have been abducted from somewhere.

Baig then approached the LB Nagar police and filed a complaint about the matter. Following the complaint, police brought Katoon and the child to the police station.

Eight-day-old baby sale case goes to CWC

Police officials informed members of the Child Welfare Committee about the incident. According to the police, Katoon had tried to sell the baby because of financial difficulties.

Later, police issued a notice to Katoon in connection with the incident. They also handed over the child and the mother to the Child Welfare Committee.

The source said the eight-day-old baby remained with the mother under the supervision of the CWC. The committee was handling their care after police brought the matter to its attention.

The incident came to light in the LB Nagar area after the prospective adopter raised doubts about the child’s origin. Meanwhile, the police action placed the mother and child under CWC supervision.
