Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has reportedly asked BRS MLC K. Kavitha to change the proposed name of her new political party. According to reports, the Commission asked her to submit three alternative names within 15 days. It may close the registration process if she fails to respond within the deadline.
Kavitha reportedly applied to register her party as “Telangana Rakshana Sena.” The proposed name carries the abbreviation “TRS.”
Kavitha party name draws objections over TRS abbreviation
Meanwhile, reports said the abbreviation “TRS” was previously associated with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The party later changed its name to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Further, reports said several people and organisations raised objections before the Election Commission. They argued that the proposed name could confuse voters because it resembles the former party’s name and abbreviation.
Finally, reports said the Commission conveyed these concerns to Kavitha in an official communication. However, the Election Commission has not yet issued an official public statement on the matter.
