Hyderabad: Police stopped a Divyang protest Assembly march at Basheerbagh after BJP leaders led a large group of persons with disabilities towards the Assembly, demanding fulfilment of government promises.
The Divyang protest Assembly march took place under the leadership of BJP MLA Payal Shankar. A large number of persons with disabilities joined the protest and began walking from Basheerbagh flyover towards the Assembly.
Payal Shankar accused the government of failing to honour assurances made during elections. She said the government had ignored promises related to pension hikes and welfare schemes for persons with disabilities. Therefore, she demanded immediate implementation of enhanced pensions for all eligible beneficiaries.

Tension prevailed at Basheerbagh as police deployed in large numbers blocked the Divyang protest Assembly march. Officers stopped the protesters from moving towards the Assembly, leading to a confrontation.
A scuffle broke out between BJP workers and police during the attempt to move forward. Despite resistance, police took several protesters into custody to control the situation.
Authorities then shifted the detained protesters to nearby police stations. The move brought the march to a halt, though protests continued at the location for some time.

Payal Shankar reiterated that the protest Assembly march aimed to secure rights for persons with disabilities. She warned that the agitation would continue until the government responded positively.
She said the government must release enhanced pensions without delay. In addition, she stressed the need to implement all promised welfare measures.
The BJP leader said the protest would intensify if authorities failed to act. She maintained that the party would continue its agitation until the demands were met.
