Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha opts for treatment at NIMS, sets example

Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha set a rare example for public officials by choosing treatment at a government hospital instead of a private one. While even lower-ranking officials often prefer corporate hospitals, the minister instead opted for the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad.

Damodar Raja Narasimha’s treatment at NIMS inspires confidence in public healthcare

Raja Narasimha was admitted to NIMS on Tuesday after suffering from a fever. A team of doctors led by NIMS Director Dr Beerappa supervised his care. Consequently, the minister responded well to the medication and recovered fully.

On Wednesday, doctors discharged him after confirming that his health had stabilised. By undergoing treatment in a government facility, the minister therefore sent a strong message of trust in public healthcare. Moreover, his decision showed that top officials can rely on state hospitals just as citizens do.

Minister’s act hailed as a message to the public

Medical professionals at NIMS said the minister’s action clearly highlighted the quality of treatment available in state-run hospitals. In fact, they pointed out that government doctors handle a large number of cases efficiently every day.

Furthermore, they added that his decision could encourage citizens to use public health services more often. As a result, it may reduce the growing dependence on costly private hospitals. Later, several doctors remarked that his example would boost confidence in Telangana’s government healthcare system.
