Hyderabad: Cyber Crime Police, Hyderabad, issued a cyber fraud advisory ahead of Christmas and New Year. As celebrations approach, police warned that fraudsters target citizens during festive activity.
Officials said criminals exploit festive offers and higher online activity to cheat people. Therefore, they urged citizens to stay alert while making online payments or bookings.
Police said fraudsters often send unknown links and fake apps through WhatsApp, SMS, and email. Additionally, officials flagged lottery scams, cashback offers, lucky draws, and fake refund messages.
Cyber fraud advisory flags common festive scams
Police warned against fake New Year party passes and event tickets. Meanwhile, officials also flagged fake travel bookings, hotel deals, and cab or rental services.
The advisory also cautioned people against fake charity appeals and job or part-time work offers. As a result, police said citizens must verify every offer carefully.
Cyber Crime Police advised citizens not to click suspicious links or download unknown apps. Moreover, officials warned people not to share OTPs, PINs, CVV numbers, or bank details.
Police asked victims to report fraud immediately through the national cybercrime portal or by calling the 1930 helpline. Further, they urged victims to save screenshots and payment details.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crimes) V. Aravind Babu, IPS, issued the advisory. Meanwhile, police said public awareness remains key to preventing festive cyber frauds.
