Hyderabad: A court imposed fines and ordered social service punishment for five women vendors accused of obstructing the Charminar tourist pathway near Charminar and Mecca Masjid.
Charminar Police said the women repeatedly occupied the main road stretch between Gulzar House and Charminar by selling artificial flower items despite repeated warnings.
According to police, authorities earmarked the road for tourist pedestrians visiting Charminar and Mecca Masjid.
The accused women belong to Alwar in Rajasthan and currently reside at Nandana Vanam near TKR Kaman in Meerpet, Hyderabad.
Police booked petty cases against the vendors on May 23 under Section 66-C of the CP Act and Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Charminar tourist pathway obstruction draws court action
The five women appeared before the First Special Judicial Magistrate Court on May 25.
After hearing the matter, the court convicted the respondents and imposed a fine of Rs 200 on each of them.
In addition, the court directed them to perform social service at Charminar Police Station until 5 pm on Sunday.
The respondents were identified as Anju Singh, Sabi Devi, Manu Devi, Manisha and Shakuntala.
Charminar Police warned that strict legal action would continue against people obstructing pedestrian pathways and roads in the heritage zone.
Police said the measures aimed to ensure safe movement for tourists and local commuters visiting the area.
