Congress accelerates Hyderabad DCC revamp ahead of GHMC polls

Hyderabad: The Congress party has accelerated the reconstitution of its Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC), marking the beginning of a comprehensive DCC revamp in Hyderabad. They aim to strengthen grassroots networks and prepare strategically for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

PCC observers Mohammad Javeed and Subramanyam, along with Hyderabad DCC President Syed Khalid Saifullah, held consultations this week. They met with applicants for key organisational roles. The selection process covered positions such as vice-president, general secretary, spokesperson, and social media coordinator.

Assembly in-charges from Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Charminar, and Malakpet were present during the interactions, signalling an inclusive and constituency-focused approach that is vital for the effective revamp of the Hyderabad DCC.

Merit-based selection and public trust drive response

Speaking to reporters, Khalid Saifullah confirmed that the DCC’s new office bearers would be announced soon. “This is a transparent, consultative process aimed at rewarding committed workers,” he said. He highlighted the shift from nomination-based selections to merit-based appointments, part of the strategy involved in revamping the Hyderabad DCC.

The online application process closed on January 4, drawing significant interest from Congress workers across Hyderabad’s Old City. Khalid attributed the enthusiasm to increasing public confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

He said that ward-level preparations for the GHMC polls in all 44 divisions would begin shortly. A strategy meeting is expected soon. This strategy is integral to the successful revamp of Hyderabad DCC.

Welfare schemes fuel momentum in Old City

Khalid also pointed to early gains made by the Congress government in Old City areas. Welfare programmes such as free bus travel for women, distribution of ration cards, and free fine rice have benefited over 70% of the population, he said.

“People are finally seeing what real governance looks like,” he added. He noted that the progress of long-delayed metro rail works in the Old City has boosted public confidence, which will aid in the enduring success of the Hyderabad DCC revamp.

He stressed that the party’s focus extended beyond elections. “The Old City was ignored for decades. This transformation is only the beginning,” he said.

The final list of Hyderabad DCC members will be published after application scrutiny. Khalid assured that the new team would reflect social diversity. It will include representation from women, youth, SC, ST, BC, and minority communities, as recommended by AICC observers.
