Hyderabad: Energy and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy personally handed over the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund cheque to Reddy on Tuesday. The Telangana government sanctioned ₹2,77,500 in CMRF medical assistance for Uber driver Kondal Reddy, who was undergoing treatment for cancer and was unable to work.
Reddy had worked as an Uber driver for the past nine years. However, his illness had prevented him from continuing his work. He was the sole breadwinner for his family and had two school-going daughters. Consequently, his inability to work had placed the household under severe financial pressure.
Vivek said the government sanctioned the assistance after the matter was brought to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s attention. “After the matter was brought to the notice of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the government responded immediately and sanctioned financial assistance through the CMRF,” Vivek said.
CMRF medical assistance accompanied treatment assurance
Shaik Salauddin, founding president of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union, said the Chief Minister had also assured comprehensive medical treatment for Reddy. According to Salauddin, the treatment would be provided at NIMS Hospital in Panjagutta.
“We are grateful to the government for standing by Kondal Reddy and supporting his treatment,” Salauddin said. The CMRF medical assistance provided financial support while Reddy remained unable to work because of his illness.
Meanwhile, Reddy’s family thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Minister Vivek Venkataswamy for supporting his treatment during the family’s financial difficulties.
