Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police arrested a chain snatcher allegedly involved in more than 180 offences across Telangana during a joint operation by the Central Crime Station and Saifabad Police.
The accused, Mohammed Faisal Shah Ali Jabri alias Abdullah alias Sohail alias Altaf, was apprehended on Tuesday after remaining absconding since 2023.
Police said the chain snatcher allegedly committed a series of gold chain thefts in the limits of Saifabad, Moghalpura, Charminar and Nampally police stations.
Investigators described him as a habitual offender with a long criminal record. They also said that 14 non-bailable warrants are pending against him.
According to police, the accused managed to evade arrest for an extended period despite repeated efforts by law enforcement agencies.
Chain snatcher tracked across multiple states
Police said the accused fled Hyderabad and later shifted to Bengaluru.
Subsequently, he moved to Rayachoti in Andhra Pradesh. There, he allegedly committed three additional chain-snatching offences under the Rayachoti and Chennur police station limits.
Acting on credible information, the CCS Special Crime Team tracked his movements and launched a targeted operation.
As a result, officers successfully apprehended the accused and brought him into custody.
Inspector Ch. Sudhakar Rao led the operation with support from his team. ACP G. Venkateswar Reddy supervised the operation under the guidance of DCP (Detective Department) S. Chaitanya Kumar.
Meanwhile, investigators are examining his role in additional unsolved cases.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish links between the accused and other pending offences.
