Hyderabad: The alleged Bunker bed scam in Telangana has triggered political controversy, with BRS MLC Sravan Dasoju demanding a CBI probe into the Rs.160 crore procurement for KGBV schools.
In a statement on Saturday, Dasoju accused senior officials of inflating prices and manipulating tender norms in the supply of bunker beds to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya schools. He claimed the price per bed was fixed at Rs.35,830, compared to the earlier range of Rs.12,000 to Rs.15,000.
According to him, the revised pricing imposed an excess burden of over Rs.100 crore on the state exchequer. He further alleged that earlier beds used 95 kg heavy-duty steel, while the new tender reduced the weight to 75 kg despite the steep price increase.
Calling it “inverse logic corruption,” the MLC alleged that turnover norms were framed to sideline Telangana MSMEs and favour select large firms. He also accused the department of denying RTI disclosures related to note files and tender evaluations.
Bunker bed scam allegations target KGBV procurement
Dasoju demanded immediate cancellation of the tender and public release of all procurement documents. He also sought a CBI and CVC investigation into the alleged irregularities.
Citing the Centre’s 60:40 funding share in KGBV schools, he urged Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to intervene. He said accountability must be fixed and vowed to continue pursuing the issue until action was taken.
The Education Department has not issued a response to the allegations so far.
