HYDERABAD: Accusing the Congress party of orchestrating a malicious social media campaign targeting senior BRS leader Harish Rao, several BRS representatives including MLC S. Ravi Yadav, and former chairmen Errolla Srinivas and Y. Sathish Reddy, lodged a formal complaint with the CCS police in Gachibowli on Sunday.
The complaint stems from what the BRS describes as a calculated effort by Congress leaders—especially Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and his associates—to defame Harish Rao in the wake of the BRS’s recently held silver jubilee celebrations. Party functionaries alleged that since the event, which featured a high-profile address by BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Congress has launched a coordinated online attack aimed at tarnishing the reputation of their senior leader.
Speaking to reporters after filing the complaint, MLC Ravi Yadav stated that Revanth Reddy had “lost political direction” and was indulging in personal vendettas instead of addressing governance issues. “He has no vision for development or public welfare. Unable to handle criticism, he has resorted to deceitful propaganda,” Yadav alleged.
The BRS leaders described the posts circulating on social media as “fabricated” and “slanderous,” accusing the Congress of using paid digital campaigns to circulate manipulated content. They claimed that fake documents, forged clips, and misinformation were being shared through verified accounts, allegedly linked to the Congress party and its supporters.
Harish Rao, known for his grassroots connect and public outreach, has been under intensified attack, the leaders said, since he began questioning the Congress government’s performance. “This is a shameful attempt to suppress a people’s leader,” the BRS said in its statement, adding that such underhanded tactics were a “sign of political bankruptcy.”
The BRS further alleged that law enforcement was acting selectively, targeting BRS activists while ignoring similar offences by Congress workers. They demanded that the DGP take immediate action against those involved in the smear campaign and warned of legal recourse if authorities failed to act.
“Is this what the promise of ‘change’ meant? If governance is reduced to spreading lies on Facebook and Twitter, the people will soon give their verdict,” the BRS warned. Drawing an emotional parallel, party leaders said that just as Hanuman was to Lord Rama, Harish Rao stands by KCR—implying that no amount of propaganda could drive a wedge between Harish Rao and K.T. Rama Rao.
Calling Revanth Reddy’s behaviour “desperate and delusional,” the BRS stated that they would pursue legal options, including approaching the courts, to halt what they called a campaign of character assassination.
