BRS blames Congress for rise in communal unrest after Purana Pul incident

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Friday condemned the communal violence at Purana Pul and accused the Congress government of failing to prevent the surge in unrest across Telangana.

Senior BRS leader Shaik Abdullah Sohail said the incident reflected a serious breakdown in law and order. He criticised the Congress administration for its failure to preserve communal harmony, claiming that since December 2023, incidents of unrest have occurred almost every week.

BRS calls for accountability and preventive action

Sohail warned that frequent clashes were spreading fear among citizens and damaging Telangana’s reputation as a peaceful and progressive state. Moreover, he noted the government had not acted promptly to defuse tensions and accused it of administrative failure.

In contrast, he pointed to the previous BRS government’s track record. He credited proactive policing and firm measures in sensitive areas for maintaining stability. According to him, the current government’s inaction had emboldened anti-social elements.

He urged the Congress to accept responsibility for the rising tensions and to deploy preventive policing in vulnerable areas. Additionally, he demanded swift and impartial action against those responsible for inciting unrest.

Concluding his remarks, Sohail appealed to the public to remain calm and united. He warned against falling prey to political or communal agendas that threaten the state’s social fabric.
