Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday launched a large-scale fish seed release programme in Madira to support local fishing communities. As part of the initiative, the government plans to release 77 lakh fish seedlings into nearby water bodies.
Bhatti, who also oversees the Finance, Planning, and Energy departments, inaugurated the programme by releasing fish seed into Madira Pedda Cheruvu. He was accompanied by District Collector Anudeep Durishetty.
Fisheries programme aims to support rural incomes
The Deputy CM said the project’s core objective is to boost the incomes of fishing families. “This programme directly benefits fishermen and helps improve their economic security,” he explained.
To improve transparency, he instructed officials to install display boards at each water body. These boards should clearly state how many fish seedlings were released at each location. This, he said, will ensure public accountability and help track the impact of the initiative.
Officials to ensure coordinated implementation
Bhatti stressed the importance of departmental coordination for the programme’s success. He directed officials from the Fisheries, Irrigation, and Agriculture Departments as well as MPDOs, Panchayat Secretaries, and Agricultural Extension Officers to actively monitor the process.
According to him, only with proper planning and oversight can the fish seed distribution yield maximum benefit for rural communities.
Telangana Warehousing Corporation Chairman Rayala Nageswara Rao, District Fisheries Officer Shivaprasad, and several public representatives and officials also attended the event.
