Minister Ponnam Prabhakar confirmed that the process to implement 42% BC reservation in Telangana has begun. He announced plans to introduce the legislation in March and urged collective political support for the bill at the national level.
HYDERABAD: The process to implement 42% BC reservation in Telangana has begun, said Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. Speaking to the media in Hyderabad on Saturday, he announced that the government plans to introduce the BC Reservation Bill in the state assembly during the first week of March.
He emphasised the government’s commitment to working with all political parties to push for the bill’s approval in Delhi. Minister Prabhakar also mentioned that only 3.1% of the population did not participate in the state’s comprehensive survey. He encouraged all citizens to actively take part in the second phase of the caste census.
Responding to criticism from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, he urged them to engage in the ongoing caste census. He praised Telangana’s initiative in conducting the caste census, positioning it as a model for the nation.
The minister revealed plans to request the central government to place the BC reservation under Schedule 9, similar to the Tamil Nadu model. Expressing optimism, he hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders in Telangana would support the BC Reservation Bill.
Additionally, Minister Prabhakar called upon BC community leaders and intellectuals to raise awareness about the reservation initiative, ensuring maximum public participation in the survey.
