Hyderabad: An Adilabad student suicide was reported from Pathan village on Tuesday after a 16-year-old Class 10 girl died by consuming pesticide, police said.
The girl, a resident of Pathan village, allegedly took the extreme step after her parents counselled her to focus on her studies and stay away from a relationship. Police said the parents had spoken to her after learning about her association with a 17-year-old boy from Akurla village in Bela mandal.
According to police, both the girl and the boy were minors and pursuing their studies at the time. After the discussion at home, the girl reportedly became distressed and later consumed pesticide.
Family members rushed her for medical assistance. However, she died before doctors could begin treatment, police said. The incident left the family in shock.
Boy critical after Adilabad student suicide
Following the girl’s death, the boy allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide at his residence in Akurla village, which falls under Bela mandal. His family noticed his condition and shifted him to a hospital without delay.
Doctors treating the boy said his condition remained critical as of Tuesday evening.
Police begin inquiry into Adilabad student suicide
Police visited both Pathan and Akurla villages and recorded statements from family members. Officials said they have initiated an inquiry into the Adilabad student suicide to establish the sequence of events.
The incident sparked concern among local residents, who stressed the need for sensitive counselling for adolescents and greater parental awareness while addressing personal issues involving minors.
