Hyderabad: A Telangana delegation studied the Philippines migration policy to strengthen welfare and protection measures for workers employed in Gulf countries.
The Telangana NRI Advisory Committee team visited the Indian Embassy in Manila on Wednesday. It also held discussions with senior officials of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas.
Philippine officials explained the country’s migration policies and practices through a detailed PowerPoint presentation. The Telangana delegation said it would examine these practices for possible adoption in the state.
The team aims to develop stronger migration policies for nearly 15 lakh Telangana workers employed in Gulf countries. Officials said the Philippines’ experience could help improve protection and welfare measures for migrant workers.
Government Whip Aadi Srinivas and Nizamabad Rural MLA Dr. R. Bhoopathi Reddy highlighted the importance of the study. They said Telangana would consider suitable practices from the Philippines to strengthen support for Gulf workers.
The delegation linked the initiative to the vision of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. It said the government would explore measures that could provide better protection to workers before and during overseas employment.
The team also met Indian Ambassador to the Philippines Harsh Kumar Jain. First Secretary Nilesh Kumar Rai participated in discussions on issues affecting migrant workers.
Philippines migration policy study focuses on Gulf worker welfare
The delegation discussed challenges faced by migrant workers and examined the Philippines’ approach to migration management. Officials also considered how selected practices could suit Telangana’s requirements.
NRI Advisory Committee Chairman Dr. B.M. Vinod Kumar and Vice-Chairman Mandha Bheem Reddy were part of the delegation. Members Singireddy Naresh Reddy, Nangi Devender Reddy and Swadesh Parikipandla also participated.
Prof. Vijay Korra and Prof. Srinivas Junuguru joined the delegation as well. Liaison Officer Aadi Karthik and other members also took part in the meetings.
The Philippines migration policy study forms part of Telangana’s efforts to improve support for overseas workers. The delegation said it would examine relevant practices before considering their adoption in the state.
The initiative focuses particularly on workers in Gulf countries, where a large number of Telangana residents are employed. The government aims to strengthen welfare mechanisms through lessons drawn from international migration systems.
