Youth dies by suicide after losing ₹4 lakh in IPL betting

HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old man from Goudavelli village under Medchal police station limits died by suicide after reportedly losing ₹4 lakh in cricket betting linked to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The deceased, identified as Rahul, was the younger son of an auto-rickshaw driver named Yadagiri. After completing his intermediate education, Rahul had been employed at a private company.

According to police sources, Rahul had recently become addicted to alcohol and was increasingly involved in IPL betting. In recent days, he allegedly borrowed money to place bets, only to suffer significant financial losses amounting to around ₹4 lakh.

Devastated by the loss and unable to cope with the pressure, Rahul hanged himself in his room at home. The incident has left the local community in shock and raised concerns over the unchecked rise in online and illegal betting during the IPL season.

Medchal police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
