Woman Maoist killed, jawans injured in fierce encounter near Karreguttalu

Hyderabad: A fierce exchange of fire between Maoists and security forces took place near Karreguttalu on the Telangana–Chhattisgarh border on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a woman Maoist and injuries to two jawans, officials confirmed. The gunfight occurred during a combing operation under the ongoing anti-Maoist campaign, Operation Kagaar.

Security forces launched a search operation in the forested hills of Karreguttalu, located in the border area of Bijapur district, after receiving intelligence inputs about Maoist presence. During the operation, Maoists engaged the forces, leading to a prolonged gun battle.

One woman Maoist was killed in the encounter. Additionally, a pressure cooker bomb planted by the Maoists exploded, killing one jawan and leaving two others seriously injured. The injured personnel were immediately shifted to hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that, as part of the ongoing operation, four Maoists have been killed so far and a significant cache of weapons has been seized. Several high-ranking Maoist leaders are believed to be among the deceased, while others reportedly sustained injuries.

Despite challenging terrain and adverse conditions, the joint forces comprising District Reserve Guards (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), CRPF, and COBRA units continue to press forward with the objective of dismantling Maoist infrastructure in the region.

Security teams have destroyed numerous Maoist hideouts and bunkers in recent weeks. Intelligence reports indicate the presence of Maoists in the south-western border areas of Bijapur, prompting intensified operations.

Authorities reaffirmed that operations will continue until all Maoist activity in the area is neutralised.
