DGP Reddy said Riaz was undergoing treatment at the hospital. Around noon, he snatched a gun from an Armed Reserve (AR) constable guarding his room. The DGP said Riaz then aimed the weapon at police officers and tried to open fire.

The police immediately reacted and fired in self-defence. Their response killed Riaz on the spot. “The officers acted swiftly to protect their lives,” DGP Reddy said.

He dismissed reports claiming that Riaz shot first or injured the constable. “Riaz only tried to fire. The police acted before he could shoot,” he clarified.

Reddy added that investigators will conduct a detailed inquiry as per procedure. He said police followed all legal protocols and acted to ensure public safety.
