Hyderabad: Private professional and engineering colleges in Telangana announced a statewide shutdown from November 3, demanding the government immediately clear fee reimbursement dues. The Telangana Private Colleges Association said it would issue formal notices to the government on October 22.
The association also planned meetings with student unions on October 25 and an all-members conference on October 26. Moreover, it will convene an all-party meeting on November 1 to discuss collective action on the issue.
Private colleges to launch bandh over fee reimbursement dues from November 3
College managements said they had earlier gone on strike from September 15 over the same demand. They reopened campuses only after the government promised phased payments. The state assured them it would release ₹600 crore immediately and another ₹600 crore before Deepavali.
However, the government failed to release the remaining funds even after the festival. As a result, college associations decided to resume their agitation. They accused the government of neglecting its commitment, saying the delay had pushed many private institutions into financial distress.
The association warned that the bandh would continue until the government clears all arrears. It urged the Education Department to act quickly and release the pending amount to prevent disruptions to students’ academic schedules.
