Uttam Kumar Reddy calls Harish Rao’s Tummidihatti claims ‘utter lies’

Hyderabad: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Friday accused BRS leader T. Harish Rao of spreading “absolute lies” regarding the proposed Tummidihatti barrage. He said Harish Rao’s claim that the project would cost ₹35,000 crore and irrigate 4.47 lakh acres had no factual basis.

Addressing reporters at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat, the minister dismissed the figures as entirely fabricated. He questioned how Harish Rao could quote such numbers when even preliminary estimates have not been prepared. “These are not just falsehoods they are deliberate attempts to mislead the public,” he said.

No official estimates yet on Tummidihatti barrage

Uttam Kumar Reddy confirmed that the Congress government plans to construct the Tummidihatti barrage and revive the Chevella–Pranahita project. However, he clarified that the government has not yet finalised any financial or irrigation estimates. “Once the estimates are ready, we will release them officially,” he added.

He further criticised Harish Rao’s approach, saying, “One cannot act over-smart and get away with it. Throwing around imaginary figures and calling it vision will backfire.”

Minister defends government’s transparency and farmer focus

The minister urged people to stay vigilant and not fall for what he described as a deceptive campaign by the BRS. He assured that the Congress government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is operating transparently and working in the best interests of farmers.

According to him, the state has accelerated the construction of all pending irrigation projects to ensure water availability for both agricultural and drinking purposes.
