Hyderabad: Tension erupted at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday as Telangana Congress women’s wing president Sunitha Rao staged a dramatic sit-in, accusing TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud of sidelining senior women leaders in party appointments and distributing posts to his own relatives.
Flanked by a group of disgruntled women functionaries, Sunitha sat right outside Mahesh Goud’s chamber, calling out what she described as blatant nepotism and betrayal of hard-working women in the party. She alleged that nominated posts and committee seats were being handed out exclusively to Goud’s sisters and sisters-in-law, while deserving senior women leaders were being systematically ignored.
“Whatever happened to Rahul Gandhi’s slogan of naari nyaay?” she questioned. “When I was Telangana Mahila Congress president, I led 241 events. The party gave me the Goshamahal ticket because of my work. But now? Women are nowhere in the list for nominated posts. Even those who lost elections are being given corporation posts, while dedicated workers like us are left in the cold.”
This isn’t Sunitha’s first outburst she’s previously aired frustration over the lack of internal representation for women, especially those who’ve proven themselves in grassroots work. Wednesday’s protest, however, marked a direct and open challenge to the TPCC leadership.
