Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday accused BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao of shielding the BJP by diverting public attention from the Kaleshwaram scam. He also condemned KTR for making derogatory remarks against the Gandhi family.
Addressing reporters at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said KTR lacked the stature to comment on a family that had “sacrificed everything for the country.” He alleged that KTR’s statements aimed to curry favour with Prime Minister Narendra Modi while shifting focus from the corruption in the Kaleshwaram project. “This is a calculated attempt to protect those responsible,” he added.
KTR Kaleshwaram scam defence backed by BJP alliance, says TPCC
According to Goud, BJP leaders are actively supporting KTR to obstruct scrutiny of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme. He pointed to the BRS’s refusal to support Congress candidate Sudershan Reddy in the Vice Presidential election as evidence of a tacit understanding with the NDA. “Kavitha’s public statements reveal that the BRS is mentally aligned with the BJP,” he remarked.
Goud demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities. He also criticised Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay for their silence. Notably, Kishan Reddy had previously pledged to expose the scam within 48 hours if the case were handed to the CBI.
“Where is that promise now?” Goud asked. “His silence speaks volumes.”
TPCC sees political merger motive behind Kaleshwaram probe freeze
Goud said the Congress believes a behind-the-scenes agreement between the BRS and BJP may have stalled the investigation. “This is not a coincidence. We see it as groundwork for a future political merger,” he stated.
He reaffirmed that the Congress would continue to press for accountability. “We won’t allow this issue to be buried under political compromises,” he concluded.
