Hyderabad: Three men with multiple past cases were taken into custody by Tolichowki Police on Sunday in connection with a gold chain theft reported on an RTC bus. Officers recovered a 1.4-tola gold chain, estimated at ₹1.5 lakh, following the accused’s admission during questioning.
The complaint, filed by one Ganipineni Babu at 3:30 p.m. on June 14, stated that his chain was stolen during a bus journey. Acting on leads, police detained the suspects Bandari Keshav alias Chinna, Kamble Shyam Sunder alias Sreenu, and Upade Suraj near Arbab Reyan Hotel at Tolichowki crossroads on June 16.
All three reside in Mangar Basti, Asif Nagar. Two other accused, Vamshi and Vamshi Vardan of Seetharam Bagh, remain untraceable.
A search at Keshav’s instance led to the recovery of the stolen chain. Police also seized ₹5,450 in cash, three mobile phones an Itel A70, a Samsung A03, and a Redmi Note 8 and an autorickshaw bearing registration TS 10 UC 7279.
Keshav has prior cases including theft, cheating, and dacoity registered in Narayanpet, Ghatkesar, Narayanaguda, Banjarahills, and Habeeb Nagar. His criminal record lists at least seven separate FIRs dating back to 2020.
Shyam Sunder has been booked in over 30 theft cases since 2012, including multiple instances in Saifabad, Malakpet, Asif Nagar, and SR Nagar. He has previously been detained under the PD Act on two occasions.
The arrests were made by SHO L. Ramesh Naik, DI G. Balraj, SI G. Raghavendra, and the Tolichowki crime staff under the supervision of DCP G. Chandra Mohan and ACP Syed Fiaz. All three accused were produced before court and sent to judicial remand. Rewards for the police team have been recommended.
