Telangana SIR process clears 54 lakh voters for final rolls

Hyderabad: The Telangana SIR process cleared 54 lakh voters for the final voter list, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy said. He also ruled out another extension to the schedule. Reddy said officials had issued notices to about 92 lakh people across the state. Meanwhile, around 65 lakh had replied so far. Of them, 54 lakh had cleared checks for the final rolls.

He said the notice process would continue until November 5. The Election Commission would publish the final voter list on November 9. The deadline for claims and objections would remain October 7, Reddy said. He added that officials did not plan another extension.

Telangana SIR process takes document checks to homes

Reddy said officials had changed the way they checked voter records. Booth Level Officers would visit homes and collect the needed papers. As a result, voters would not have to gather at central places just to submit documents. In addition, an adult family member could give papers for other members of the family.

The CEO said officials could handle cases of voters who had moved away through the online system. Therefore, such voters would not always need to appear in person. Election Commission systems support online form processing and migration-related voter registration work.

Reddy said the new method aimed to make the process easier for the public. It would also help officials clear pending notices faster. The Telangana SIR process was now focused on notices, document checks and claims. Officials had until November 5 to finish that work.

Khairatabad verification remains under focus

Reddy also spoke about the Khairatabad Assembly seat. Election officials had issued about 80,000 notices there. A same-day report quoting the CEO said about 20% of those notice recipients had responded. The Khairatabad figures formed part of the wider voter check. However, the CEO’s remarks focused on clearing notices and updating the rolls.

Reddy also clarified the rule for Form-6 applications. He said Telangana still required a declaration because the revision work was not over. Some states had already completed their SIR process, he said. However, Telangana would keep the declaration requirement while the revision remained active.

The CEO said officials would continue checks until November 5. The Telangana SIR process would then move to final publication on November 9. Further, Reddy asked voters with pending notices to complete the needed steps. He said the current deadlines would stay in place.
