Hyderabad: The Telangana government launched School Education Services on WhatsApp, enabling more than 18 lakh students and parents to receive educational updates and access key services directly through the messaging platform.
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy formally launched the initiative at a programme held at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.
Developed by the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD)-MeeSeva Division of the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Department in collaboration with the School Education Department, the platform aims to strengthen communication between schools, students, parents and the government.
The new School Education Services platform will provide regular updates on academic progress, examinations, scholarships, distribution of educational materials, school activities, health programmes and other student-focused initiatives.
School Education Services offer key student facilities
Several educational services are already available through the platform. Students and parents can access progress reports, hall tickets, marks memos, examination results, bonafide certificates and transfer certificates through WhatsApp. In addition, the platform provides access to historic SSC memos and facilitates SSC memo correction requests.
Officials said lakhs of students and parents had already used these services during the past year. As a result, the initiative reduced paperwork and minimised the need for visits to government offices and schools.
School Education Services to expand in next phase
The government plans to introduce several additional features in the next phase. These include student and parent feedback systems, attendance updates and information on the distribution of uniforms, textbooks and notebooks.
Furthermore, the platform will provide details related to pre-matric scholarships, mid-day meals, health and wellness programmes, sports activities and residential school welfare initiatives.
A unique feature of the initiative is “Palapitta,” the Indian Roller mascot, which will share important information with students and parents through engaging WhatsApp video messages. Officials said the mascot would make government communication more interactive and accessible.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the government remains committed to using technology to improve educational outcomes and strengthen engagement with students and parents.
The launch of School Education Services marks another step in Telangana’s efforts to promote digital governance, improve public service delivery and expand citizen-centric educational services across the state.
