Telangana revenue system overhaul aims to protect farmers’ land rights: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said on Monday that the Telangana government had undertaken a systematic overhaul of revenue administration to protect farmers’ legal land rights and resolve longstanding disputes.

He said the Telangana revenue system overhaul aimed to ensure transparent public services, strengthen accountability and provide permanent solutions to land-related grievances.

The minister reviewed the implementation of revenue reforms with senior officials at the Secretariat. The meeting examined the Bhu Bharati Act, statewide land resurveys, pattadar passbook distribution and the disposal of pending land grievances.

Ponguleti, who also held the Housing and Information & Public Relations portfolios, directed officials to improve the delivery of revenue services at the field level.

Telangana revenue system overhaul focuses on land records

The minister said the government had issued 5,68,858 pattadar passbooks since the Bhu Bharati Act came into force on April 14, 2025.

Additionally, authorities had issued 6,71,508 passbooks before the legislation took effect. Consequently, the total number of passbooks distributed to farmers during the period covered by the review reached 12,40,366.

Ponguleti said comprehensive land resurveys under the Act had helped provide permanent solutions to disputes that remained unresolved for decades.

He also criticised the previous administration for its handling of the revenue department. According to the minister, negligence, mismanagement and policies serving vested interests had disrupted revenue administration over the preceding decade.

However, he said the government, under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, had taken steps to restore public confidence and bring administrative services closer to citizens. Ponguleti stressed that the Telangana revenue system overhaul required effective implementation at the grassroots level.

He instructed officials to ensure that citizens received revenue services transparently, accountably and within stipulated timelines. He also emphasised faster grievance redressal and effective implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act across the state.
