Hyderabad: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Telangana Police, a charge sheet was filed entirely in Telugu to make criminal proceedings easier for common people to understand. Dundigal Police Station Head Constable Swaroopa earned wide appreciation for taking this initiative.
Earlier, police investigations and court documents largely remained in English. However, Swaroopa chose Telugu to ensure that complainants and victims could clearly understand case details. As a result, she prepared and submitted two charge sheets in Telugu during 2025.
Initiative improves access and speeds up justice
Meanwhile, Swaroopa also demonstrated efficiency in investigations. She quickly solved a missing persons case and safely reunited a mother and her child with their family. Senior officers said the use of Telugu improved clarity and reduced delays during court proceedings.
With the support of ACP Shankar Reddy, Swaroopa submitted the Telugu charge sheets before the Medchal court. Therefore, the move received strong backing from senior officials.
Recently, the police department formally recognised her effort. State DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy and Shikha Goel felicitated her at a programme held at the Banjara Hills Command and Control Centre.
Moreover, senior officers said the initiative opened a new chapter in people-friendly policing. They added that using Telugu in legal documents would improve transparency, accessibility, and public trust in the justice system.
