Telangana movement journalists seek official recognition

Hyderabad: Telangana movement journalists should be officially recognised as movement activists, the Telangana State Working Journalists Union (TUWJ) told the state government during a meeting with the Telangana Movement Activists Recognition Committee.

A TUWJ delegation led by state president K. Virahat Ali met committee chairman K. Keshav Rao and submitted a memorandum seeking formal recognition for journalists who actively participated in the Telangana statehood movement.

The union said journalists had played a crucial role in carrying the aspirations of the Telangana movement to the public. It stated that media professionals documented alleged injustices, highlighted public concerns and took part in protests during the agitation.

According to the memorandum, several journalists faced police action, intimidation and even loss of employment while supporting the cause. Therefore, the union argued that their contribution deserved official acknowledgement alongside other movement participants.

He assured the delegation that all representations received by the committee would be examined before the final recommendations were prepared. Meanwhile, the committee continued consultations with various groups seeking recognition for their role in the statehood struggle.
