Hyderabad: Telangana has emerged as the top-performing state in the ongoing paddy procurement season, with 41.6 lakh tonnes purchased so far and ₹7,887 crore disbursed as Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers. The scale of procurement is nearly four times that of Andhra Pradesh, according to figures released by the state government.
Congress leader and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy shared the data on Wednesday, highlighting that the payments were made within 48 hours, directly benefiting 7.5 lakh farmers across 8,401 paddy procurement centres (PPCs).
Women power in procurement operations
Of the 1.26 lakh personnel deployed across procurement centres, 45% are women staff from Indira Kranti Patham (IKP) groups. Reddy said this reflected Telangana’s commitment to women’s empowerment in rural economic activity.
The government also paid a bonus of ₹314 crore under the Sannarakam category to support farmers cultivating fine varieties of paddy.
AP lags behind in procurement scale
In comparison, Andhra Pradesh has procured only 11.2 lakh tonnes of paddy so far. It has paid ₹2,830 crore to 1.7 lakh farmers, as per official data. Telangana’s scale of operations remains nearly four times greater in both volume and outreach.
Uttam Kumar Reddy attributed this performance to the state’s farmer-first approach. He described it as proof that “Telangana is rising” through inclusive and efficient agricultural governance.
Telangana continues to lead in paddy procurement.
