Hyderabad: Telangana secured second prize in the state category at the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA)–2025 for strong implementation of energy conservation and energy efficiency programmes.
On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu presented the award at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Subsequently, Principal Secretary (Energy) Navin Mittal and TGREDCO Managing Director V Anil received the honour on behalf of the state. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Union Ministry of Power, evaluated states based on verified performance indicators.
Notably, officials said the Telangana energy conservation award reflected coordinated action by the energy department and its agencies. Over the year, the state strengthened enforcement systems. At the same time, it expanded pilot initiatives across sectors. As a result, electricity savings increased and compliance levels improved statewide.
Telangana energy conservation award driven by projects and enforcement
At Hyderabad Central University, authorities implemented a Cool Roof demonstration project over 36,746 square feet. Through this intervention, the campus saved about 7,000 units of electricity each year. In addition, under the State Energy Conservation Fund, the government distributed 600 induction cooktops and 600 induction pressure cookers.
Meanwhile, the state launched an electric two-wheeler loan scheme for employees of TGREDCO, DISCOMs, TRANSCO and GENCO. Alongside this move, enforcement teams conducted 870 market inspections under the Standards and Labelling programme. They also carried out laboratory testing on 27 product samples.
Furthermore, Telangana advanced implementation of the Energy Conservation and Sustainable Building Code–2025 and Energy Norms for Sustainability–2025. Consequently, 1,178 buildings across the state complied with these standards. This compliance resulted in annual electricity savings of 412.25 million units. Under the Perform-Achieve-Trade scheme, authorities also issued 3.03 lakh Energy Saving Certificates to 43 designated consumers from eight sectors.
Finally, TGREDCO stated that the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy–2025 prioritised renewable energy, green hydrogen, energy storage and industrial growth. Therefore, officials said the Telangana energy conservation award confirmed the state’s commitment to efficiency-led development. They added that conservation programmes would expand further.
