Secunderabad to host international kite and sweet festival from January 13

Hyderabad: Secunderabad will host the International Kite and Sweet Festival from January 13 to 15 at Parade Grounds. It is organised by the Telangana Department of Tourism to coincide with Makar Sankranti.

Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao announced that 40 international kite flyers from 19 countries and 55 national kite flyers from 15 Indian states will participate in the event. Countries represented include Indonesia, Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Portugal, Vietnam, Malaysia, Italy, Switzerland, Algeria, Singapore, Russia, Ukraine, and France.

Night-flying events are scheduled on all three days, featuring oversized and uniquely designed kites.

The venue will also showcase Telangana’s traditional arts and culture through cultural performances. Around 100 stalls will display handloom and handicraft items, while 60 food courts will serve Telangana and other Indian cuisines.

In collaboration with Culture Language Indian Connections (CLIC), the International Sweets Festival will feature over 1,200 varieties of homemade sweets. These sweets will be prepared by Hyderabad residents with roots in various Indian states and countries.

Rao also announced a Hot Air Balloon Festival from January 16 to 18. Fifteen balloons meeting international standards will be flown during morning sessions on Hyderabad’s outskirts. In the evenings, they will be accompanied by a drone show at Parade Grounds.

Additionally, a high-tech drone display is planned at Gachibowli Stadium on January 16 and 17. The event will include LED-lit aerial performances, FPV drone racing, and soccer demonstrations, with Telangana tourism destinations featured on-screen.

“The state government is implementing a range of initiatives to enhance tourism in Telangana,” Rao said. “I encourage citizens to visit local tourist attractions at least once a month to support tourism and foster local employment.”
