RSP confident of BRS ticket from Sirpur, says party will support his return

Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar has confirmed that he intends to contest from the Sirpur Assembly constituency in the next election, saying the people of Sirpur want him as their MLA. Speaking in a televised interview, he expressed confidence that the party would support his bid.

Kumar, who previously contested and lost from Sirpur on a BSP ticket, said he later joined BRS with a focus on the party’s goals, not positions. “I never opposed Konappa joining BRS. Many come and go in politics. It’s about the party’s needs,” he said, referring to sitting MLA Koneru Konappa, who recently rejoined BRS after a brief stint with Congress.

‘People want me to contest from Sirpur again’

RS Praveen Kumar said he had communicated to the party leadership that the people of Sirpur continue to see him as their MLA. “I believe in convincing the party. The people’s voice matters. I have 45,000 supporters who back me,” he said.

He added that while elections are still three years away, his heart lies in Sirpur and he feels a strong connection with its voters.

No dissatisfaction within BRS, says RSP

Dismissing rumours of internal rifts, Kumar clarified that he is not disgruntled within the BRS. “I didn’t enter politics for power or posts,” he said. “My focus is on public service and party priorities.”

In the 2023 Assembly polls, Kumar had lost to Konappa, who then represented BRS. After the elections, Kumar joined the party while Konappa exited, citing differences. However, Konappa recently returned to BRS, triggering speculation over who would receive the party ticket in 2028.

Kumar’s latest remarks asserting his claim to the Sirpur ticket have renewed political buzz in the constituency.
