Hyderabad: BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar accused the Congress government of failing to make progress in the Medigadda barrage case, despite a complaint filed three years ago. Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, he said the party had arranged the press conference to remind the government about the pending case and demand action.
Praveen Kumar also criticised the suspension of Yadadri Thermal Power Plant chief engineer Suresh. He claimed the engineer had spoken the truth. Meanwhile, he questioned the government’s decision to appoint a committee of IAS officers to examine the plant’s operations.
He asked how officials trained in sociology, history and public administration could assess technical issues such as plant load factor and coal consumption. He also pointed to the police visit to the home of Transco chairman and managing director Prabhakar Rao.
The BRS leader questioned why the government was targeting engineers who, he said, had improved the performance of electricity utilities. He challenged the rationale for taking action against professionals in the power sector.
Medigadda barrage case draws attention to earlier blast claims
Praveen Kumar’s comments revived earlier claims about a possible explosion near the Medigadda barrage. According to BRS leaders, then engineer-in-chief Muraleedhar Rao told Congress ministers that he had heard a sound resembling a bomb blast near the barrage. He called for an investigation into the incident.
Separately, BRS leaders alleged that someone had planted and detonated bombs near Medigadda as part of a political conspiracy. They claimed the blast caused cracks in a barrage pillar. However, the material provided does not establish that an explosion caused the damage or confirm any investigation findings.
The party argued that Muraleedhar Rao’s reported remarks strengthened its demand for a probe. In addition, Praveen Kumar questioned why the authorities had not made progress on the complaint after three years.
His criticism covered both the pending barrage case and the government’s treatment of power sector engineers. He urged the Congress government to address the complaint and explain the status of the investigation.
