Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday reviewed the state’s monsoon preparedness and directed departments to take all necessary precautions ahead of the rainy season.
The high-level review meeting began at the Secretariat amid the arrival of the southwest monsoon and forecasts of rainfall across the state.
Ministers from the Agriculture, Irrigation, Urban Development, Panchayat Raj, Health and Home departments attended the meeting. Senior officials from HYDRAA, Disaster Management and Fire Services also participated.
At the outset, Meteorological Department officials gave a presentation on the El Niño effect, monsoon rainfall projections and other weather-related developments.
Monsoon preparedness review focuses on agriculture and disaster response
Revanth Reddy instructed Agriculture Department officials to create awareness among farmers about precautions during possible drought conditions.
Additionally, he asked officials to educate farmers about alternative crops that require less water.
The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of crop rotation and crop diversification. He directed officials to explain these practices to farmers in a simple manner.
Meanwhile, he reviewed maintenance works at irrigation projects across the state.
He instructed officials to complete repairs and maintenance of project gates on a priority basis. Furthermore, he directed the Finance Department to release funds immediately for maintenance works.
The Chief Minister also ordered the release of funds for rebuilding damaged roads and collapsed bridges.
Revanth Reddy said all departments must remain ready to handle emergencies during the monsoon season.
He directed officials to utilise the ₹1,000 crore available with the Disaster Management Department as per norms and based on immediate requirements.
Furthermore, he instructed officials to respond without delay in cases involving loss of life, property or livestock during disasters.
The Chief Minister asked officials to remain accessible to the public and intensify relief measures whenever necessary.
He also called for close coordination among departments to prevent disruptions during the rainy season.
